Event Description:In the course, we explore how to help those in pain reset their bodily protection responses, including pain, through sense-making, movement exploration, load management, mindfulness, and strategies to calm a highly sensitized system. Additionally, the course is supported by the book, Bodily Relearning (International) / Bodily Relearning (USA), (Boyd 2023, Noigroup Publications).
Since its debut in 2023, the Bodily Relearning course has been presented in over a dozen cities across five countries, reaching nearly 500 attendees.
About the instructor:Bernhard Taxer, MSc (OMT)Bernhard’s interests lie in the fields of persistent, neuro-musculo-skeletal symptoms, neuropathic pain syndromes, headaches and orofacial pain. In the course of the last twenty years, Bernhard has completed several manual therapy concepts, his master’s degree in musculoskeletal physiotherapy and his OMT diploma. He finished with his PhD in 2023 in the research field of migraine and is currently working in a post-doc position in Salzburg / Austria. He was welcomed into the NOI Group in 2018 as a training instructor and commenced teaching in 2020.
Learning outcomesAt the end of this course, you will be able to:- Evaluate healthy notions of pain for use as therapeutic narratives with people suffering from pain- Apply appropriate metaphors, narratives, and experiential tools to explore the underlying neuroimmune mechanisms behind a pain experience- Examine the sensitivity of the neuroimmune system- Identify physical stress management strategies to positively impact the neuroimmune system- Evaluate ways to integrate neurodynamic based movement exploration treatments with other elements of clinical care- Develop appropriate progressions and regressions for neurodynamic based movement exploration treatment recommendations- Explain the use of mindfulness practices to help reteach our bodily protection responses associated with pain
Target Group:The course is designed for health professionals and movement-based practitioners working within the medical and healthcare communities to help people suffering from pain.There are no specific prerequisites to attending this course, although a basic level of peripheral nerve anatomy and physiology is assumed.

Content:This course includes live, in-person discussions, didactic lectures, movement exploration labs, mindfulness practice, and clinical case discussions over two days.
